Hi ,
Many times throughout our lives, we wait for what we want, hope or dream of. We wait for many reasons…until we have enough money in our accounts, retire, the children our grown, the parents are gone etc. Sometimes we wait because of fear, or we may not believe what we want is possible. We think to our Selves – one day I will do or have this. That day turns into 10 years later. As comfortable as it
is to believe that we have many years to eventually do or have what we desire, that is not the reality of life. What is true is that life is unpredictable, and the gift of living into our golden years is not guaranteed – for any of us. Life can be short. We often don’t want to accept this truth, and we’re very adept at avoiding it. Nonetheless, it is reality. It takes much courage to face the realities of life (no matter what situation we find our Selves
in).
I learned this truth at a relatively young age, with my parents’ death, and then the death of a close friend of mine at age 59. There have been a handful of others over the years. Death and illness bring this truth repeatedly to light. These are unexpected gifts of both. Each can guide us to live our lives more vibrantly – if we let them. Let them….
So, if there is something important that you’ve been wanting to do, a heart’s desire, a passion you’d like to pursue, a new lifestyle/career, a dream to go after, then don’t wait any longer. Begin now, whatever that may look like for you. Just start. Take one small step, then another. You may even find your Self leaping! Wonderful.😀 Do whatever it takes to begin. Don’t let your Self live passively, waiting for whatever it may be. Get in the driver’s seat, step on the gas, and go after what you want (with fear along for the ride!). Have an adventure, some new experiences, and discover more of your Self along
the way.
I’ve taken some courageous leaps over the past several years, and they all have been worth it! And scary! But that is the nature of change, and going after what’s important to us.
From Waiting to Getting in the Driver’s Seat
Ask your Self if there’s something you’ve been truly wanting to do, or a heartfelt desire you’ve put off for awhile. Perhaps it’s something you really want in your life but are afraid you’ll never get, so you don’t even try. To risk and fail seems worse. It’s not. Then write whatever it is down, and how long you’ve been
wanting this. Reflect on how important this is to you, and how you would feel if whatever it is happened.
Brainstorm with your Self (or others) about making what you desire real. What are some possibilities? Let your Self be creative and imagine whatever comes to mind. List 5 possible, even outlandish, ways you can move toward having what you want.
This week, consider how waiting for what you want or not trying has affected you. Then identify one small step you could take in the direction of whatever it is you truly desire. Congratulate your Self and notice how you feel as you take those steps. Watch some extraordinary things begin to happen! 😀
