Hi ,
The word nourish means to ‘feed, cherish, promote the growth of.” Often, we do the first, yet do not think about cherishing or intentionally doing things which promote our body’s wellbeing. Many factors get in the way, including a hectic lifestyle, stress, not liking or knowing how to cook/exercise, our environment, and the health behaviors of those closest to us.
Our beliefs also play an important role. In the U.S., there’s a popular belief that everyone automatically starts to have health issues, physical limitations and an expanding waist as middle-age arrives. This is fortunately not true. We can see evidence of this in other countries – and perhaps with our older friends and relatives.
There are so many things that can nourish our bodies. Just being in nature more often, and allowing the sun to shine on us for 15 minutes a day is healing and beneficial. Since being in Nevada, surrounded by natural beauty and incredible sunshine almost daily, I already can feel a noticeable difference. Spending time with
positive, uplifting friends and family members who enjoy laughing and appreciate the small things in life is nourishing. Intentionally doing things which bring us joy and peace energizes us, and gives some zest to our step🙂 Practicing gratitude, eating healthy foods, and moderate size
portions are other ways to care for our body.
No matter what your current health status is, by intentionally nourishing your body, you will benefit tremendously over time
Nurturing Our Body
- Make time for regular self-care, no matter how busy you are. Give your Self permission to prioritize it 🙂 Experiment
and see if you can increase your self-care from 25% to 35% – what would that look like? Self-care encompasses many things, including sleep, exercise, nutrition, social support, stress reduction, financial well-being, and relaxation practices.
- Bring increased attention to your body. How does it feel? Are there aches, stiffness, lethargy, digestive issues or a sense of vibrancy, lightness, and wellbeing? If you’re experiencing any discomfort, consider getting a medical exam with comprehensive labwork (including blood and food sensitivity). Understand your current
health status, and what the findings are indicating about your body’s needs. Then congratulate your Self for taking this important step!
This week, reflect on the ways you are currently nourishing your body. What are they? Wonderful! Ask your Self what might help you feel more vibrant that involves your body. Perhaps your body needs more rest, or to be stretched and challenged more frequently, or healthier nutrition. Then go ahead and honor one of your body’s
needs, and witness the wonderful benefits that unfold.
